History

Since 1984, the Aggie Wranglers has grown to be one of Texas A&M University’s most recognized student organizations and newest traditions. The Aggie Wranglers is a student-run, country and western exhibition dance group comprised solely of Texas A&M students.

The Aggie Wranglers began out of the desire of a few students at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and their dance partners to highlight an Aggie tradition of country and western dancing and to honor their beliefs with their dancing ability and enthusiasm. The group began with six couples who responded to an advertisement placed in The Battalion by their founder, recruiting dancers for a performance in the 1984 Calvert County Fair. Twenty individuals showed up and seven couples were chosen. The founder choreographed all the original performance routines, utilizing her dance background. Despite their different backgrounds, the Aggie Wranglers chose a name based on an intended sponsorship and immediately started accepting performance requests. Some of the still-existing dance moves, such the Donna, the Jesse flip, all the flips and most of the dips and lifts, came from those early years
